7 Online Reads to Checkout this Week

I realized the other day that I do a lot of reading on the web. My Instapaper, Feedly, and Medium apps are my go to apps when I have a few minutes to kill. In the spirit of sharing I thought I would share seven online reads that have me thinking. My goal is to try and do this every few weeks to let you know what has been motivating me and shaping my thinking. So without further ado here you go!

1. In the Real World by Alice Keeler

Alice Keeler makes a strong case for why the way we teach does not prepare students for the real world. I found myself nodding my head a lot as I read her blog post.

2. Technology As Privilege: Why Using It Matters by Christina Torres

I’ve had several  conversations with one of my teachers about how technology in the classroom can even the playing field in the classroom. In this great blog post Christina argues that if we don’t take advantage of our access to technology that we are doing a disservice to our students.

3. Where You Get Stuck (And What To Do About It) by Todd Henry

We all get stuck from time to time. Todd Henry explains practical steps that you can take to get out of your rut.

4. Five Smartphone Battery Myths, Explained from LifeHacker

This is a just for fun read. Lifehacker did a great job of addressing many of the myths that we hear about Smartphone batteries.

5. Stop the Negativity: Become an Anti-Critic by Phil McKinney

The next two articles deal with negativity around your work. In this article McKinney describes a great way to deal with negative people.

6. Haters and Critics: How to Deal with People Judging You and Your Work by James Clear 

Haters…we all have to deal with them. This article offers some advice on how to deal with critics.

7. Delivering Instruction in a Star Wars Setting from http://www.freetech4teachers.com/

The episode seven trailer came out this week. Why not capitalize on the buzz and include a Star Wars style movie scroll in your class!
